The Open Source database Ethidat developed by the Leeway founders will provide the data basis for the Leeway ESG Score in the future. In this way, Leeway aims to make CO2 data available to the public free of charge and contribute to greater transparency and sustainability of companies.
Transparency, participation and sustainability are three fundamental values of Leeway, according to which we act out of deep conviction. Therefore, we continue to invest a large part of our development work in the ethical evaluation of companies in our database. For this purpose, the corresponding data must first be collected and structured, which until now has been published relatively arbitrarily by companies in PDF form
The European Union is making efforts through guidelines and directives to achieve transparent publication of relevant information on environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) issues, but is still at the beginning of a long development process. So far, it has mainly been about getting companies to publish such information in principle. However, there is still a lack of formal requirements for the structure of reporting on ESG criteria. Accordingly, it is difficult to read and process the data automatically.

As part of a software sprint project, funded and supported by the German Aerospace Center, the Open Knowledge Foundation and the BMBF, Elias Philipp and Lars Wißler have developed Ethidat an Open Source database for data on CO2 emissions from large companies. Leeway will finance the operation of this platform for the future and will make all CO2 data obtained available to the public free of charge on it in the future.
Ethidat will also provide the data basis for the Leeway ESG Score in the future. Until now, our data extraction has evaluated over 60 criteria and data points from the companies' sustainability reports, from the aforementioned emissions to waste and the proportion of women. With this data, our stock analysis will be expanded in the next quarter to include the aspect of ethical conduct.
